Re: Merc Prop covers

Are the Merc prop covers able to be used in the water? I have been thinking about buying a cover to use on my prop while beached to prevent anyone from killing themselves on the prop while in the water.

PropGear used to make this one below, (sorry, only pic I have), in a plastic mesh. It worked GREAT in the water, and fine on the trailer. I loved it. If you look close you can see the prop inside of it.

They do not list it on their website anymore though. I bought it through Overtons several years ago. ( www.propgear.com )

The Merc ones, the ones Rich & I have above, and the ones you can buy at West Marine, are all made of canvas, and will soak up water, and probably not work well under water. We had the ones above custom modified by a local shop here in VA.

Maybe try and track down some mesh ones through www.overtons.com or contact PropGear directly off of their website.

Pointerman, check this out:

http://www.hardlineproducts.com/propgear.html . Go figure.

I saw on another site, that they say it is good in the water as well as on Hardline's website.

I'll take the credit on that one. :D

I bought Rich's and my prop covers from West Marine. I took them to a local Auto Upholstery Shop and had the outer panel gone over with black vinyl in order to apply vinyl graphics. I had the local sign shop make up my graphics in reflective lettering, and they turned out great. Its been a couple seasons, and the letters a peeling a tiny bit. I might go with a new phrase this time.

They are also available directly from www.propgear.com

Merc wants $90 for one. Rumor has it you have to have them on your boats when they are on the trailer at poker runs
