Some changes to the Coast Gaurd on Lake Michigan
Doesn't sound like it will affect search and rescue around here though....
(AP-Grand Haven, March 24, 2005, 11:04 a.m.) Control of western Michigan's U.S. Coast Guard operations is moving across Lake Michigan to Milwaukee from Grand Haven as part of an internal reorganization plan. Group Grand Haven has directed search-and-rescue efforts and administration in the area for nearly 20 years, but it's now being downgraded. Officials say the move won't affect Muskegon's Coast Guard rescue helicopter operation or its seasonal rescue station. But the Group Grand Haven operation will lose 14 personnel, and its operations office will be transferred to Milwaukee. Search-and-rescue stations at Muskegon, Ludington and Grand Haven will remain. |

Sounds like there will be less presence in GH now. But, who know's what division those 14 personel will come from.... not sure how they divide the work there, patrol, management, commanders, etc.... time will tell I guess.
