water suction mystery, pressure is 0 again
I thought I had solved my water problem because I repaired to suction hose from SW to transom and got 30 PSI after for the firt time in months,,then next time out zero again. I know it's not the hose in the boat because I put a piece of tubing in it to check if it was the culprit, I thought I had found it after I did that. Now the only thing I can think is it must be the 1" hose thats in the gimbal housing. Do these ever colapse? I had the drive of while hunting the problem and it seems strong and leak free???The drive is not restricted either and the pump is new, block is fresh , I'm sure the gauge is working ,,what gives? Exhaust is getting flow(not hot)but just no pressure.

The drive hose can be checked by disconnecting it inside the boat and firing it up. The new style( last 5-6 years) replacement hose sucks it is no longer a preform, just straight hose and kinks very easily. I replaced mine with wire wound was a nighmare getting it on but it will last a very long time and never ever kink.

how does that check it? I'm getting enough water to cool, just low,low flow.
Will the exhaust hose pinch it if not connected to the lower drive?

Cool, something I saw that bears checking out. It is the passage in the gimbal housing. I saw one that the plastic had collapsed into the passage and reduced the size dramatically. My mechanic says he sees this regularly. Can be checked out by removing the fitting on the gimbal. Are you sure your not getting enough flow? I had a water pressure guage that I had plumbed into the block, was totally unreliable due to getting plugged up.

Re: water suction mystery, pressure is 0 again
Well, I took the drive off, checked the little hose, put tubing inside the big one and jumped to 30 PSI for one trip, then next time out zero again,,,zero all last year but exhaust riser, eng, etc is nice and cool. Pump is new and hooked up right. My oval exhaust hose in the gimble is disconnected from the lower drive,,but might have benn attached on the good run,,any chance it's the culprit?

Cool, Was there any difference in the engine temps on these runs? I assume that you have checked and cleaned the power steering and oil cooler entrance. I would go out then take the fitting that supplies water pressure to the guage and check it for rust, sand, etc..., and run it then. Wait till your out in deep water, where you are in clean water. I never had good luck with this in my boat. I eventually forgot about it and assumed if my temps were good, I was alright. I know that if you move the fitting to another area it can be more reliable.
