575SCI blower oil change.
Blower Oil change maintenance:
This last weekend I decided to finally attempt the blower oil change. I had previously been discouraged by the idea of complete blower removal just to change oil. I found this method very easy and didn’t involve removing the blower and turning it upside down. 30 minutes to change the oil and an hour if you modify it with a drain plug. I spent another hour at the hardware store getting a plug, 5/16-drill bit and a 1/8” pipe plug tap. From my understanding of BBQ70’s posted info, I have the late style blower with a sealed rear bearing and a B&M style front cover so I don’t have any rear oil to change.
1.Remove the blower belt by releasing the tensioner.
2. Stuff big towel under blower snout and front cover.
3. Loosen all of the front cover bolts without removing completely.
4. Begin to loosen Allen fill plug on top. Front cover will pop loose.
5. Blower oil will drain into towel.
You could at this point tighten the bolts and refill.
I decided to remove the cover completely and drill a hole and thread for a 1/8” pipe plug in the front cover just to the left of center near the bottom. Now I can change the oil
Without loosening the cover. If you remove the cover completely be careful with the gasket. I was able to reuse the gasket but otherwise you might need a new gasket. I took some pictures but am not sure how to post them.

I was going to do something like that when I realized that that there might be an easier way. I took my vacuum oil changer (topsider), removed the plug in the top of the front cover and vacuumed out the oil. Took about 5 min. to get it all out and about another 20 min. to clean up the mess after over filling with new oil. Definitely the way I'll do it from now on.

Hi Guys:
Mercury says to use standard HP Merc gear oil in the blower, and that would probably be fine. But since it's an expensive toy, I've been using Royal Purple 75W-90 Max-Gear in mine with good results.
Here's a little more trivia, the 1st time I changed the oil in mine, it appeared to have RP in it from the factory........same color and consistency.

How about the rear section of the blower? Did you change the oil there too? If so, how did you do it?
On the front part, did it make a big mess, or did the towel absorb all of it?
Thanks for the instructions. Wondered how to do it. The older style blowers are easier, just suck the oil out w/ a pump and refill.

I have heard of the oil posibly having some feul contamination. I take it you didn't smell fuel or see any floating?
We'll be changing ours by means of a sucking tool soon. We have to change the thermostats too.

I just checked my oil level this weekend, and since being freshened by the Blower Shop and relubed by me 25ish hours ago, the oil level is perfect but is starting to get a little bit of the burned smell like an overdue gearcase change.
I couldn't detect the smell of fuel in the oil fortunately.
I'm spinning my blower pretty fast (3" pulley/4" stock), so that is probably why the accelerated deterioration is occurring.
Will be changed ASAP.....a lot cheaper than a new blower!
