I had the opportunity to do some Edelbrock heads. Out of the box numbers were not too impressive but after porting they really woke up. Here are some airflow numbers. 28" h20

The exhaust port curve is similar to a Canfield port where it keeps flowing as the valve opens except the Edelbrock port is considerably smaller in volume.

Jim how would you compair them to a Merlin oval out of the box?

Comparing Both heads out of the box the Merlin exhaust ports flow slightly better. This head is a rectangular port intake so you can't compare the intakes. Ported, the Merlin has the advantage because of the raised exhaust port. It (Merlin) will flow close to 300 CFM @ .700 lift although with a seat grind the Edelbrock head should pick up some more airflow because of a ridge on the insert from the factory machining.

So for one of the few heads with stock location exhaust ports this edelbrock head is pretty good once you port it. What are the other choices for a stock location exhaust port head?

The heads Jim worked on belong to me. I must first say I was dissapointed by the Edelbrocks out of the box numbers. I thought they would do better. On the other hand I knew I had sent them to the right place to have the work done. Jim did an excellent job of porting and reworking these heads for me.They look like they were done by a CNC machine. All ports look identical and the bowls are perfectly radiused. I also had him do the setup on the valve springs. All the work that was done is top shelf. I am eagerly awaiting my shortblocks so that I can get these heads bolted on and see how they perform under some boost !!!!

I went with these heads because I could not change my exhaust height. I also liked the fact that they came already hard anodized so I don't have to worry about corrosion.

I will certainly post up my dyno runs as soon as I get back from Tyler's shop in a few weeks.

Again I would like to thank Jim V. for a better than expected job on my heads. I would highly recommend him to anybody who asks.

I just got some good numbers out of the "O" ports from a head porter that does alot of BB chevy work. Engines should be on the dyno in a couple of weeks. I will let the board know what they make. Small cams though.
