454 Serpentine belt
removed the old water pump and now I can't get the serpentine belt back on how it was. I verified which setup I had from the Clymers manual before removing and only adjusted the "Adjustment stud" pulley. This pulley has a gear in the back that moves up and down when you tighten/losen the nut, which then tightens or losens the belt.
I followed the instructions to losen the adjustment stud and remove the serpentine belt. Now when I replace it, there is way too much slack in the belt. I've enclosed a sketch of how it looked before and how Clymers has it.
Any help would be appreciated.

Re: 454 Serpentine belt
If there is too much slack, it must be installed wrong. The only variable with these things is where they make the loop over the circulating pump. Just put the belt in on around all the outer pulleys and then one by one pull it into over the circ pump between all the diffrent pulleys it will work one way. I hope this makes sense to you.

Re: 454 Serpentine belt - corrected
After contacting a local Mercruiser shop, Lakeside Marine in Rowlett, I was able to get the shop manual's corrected serpentine belt layout....here it is.
