prop size/rpm question

should i choose my props @ max rpm should i choose them with my trims all the way down or when i raise the trims to optimal speed position?
now i get my max rpm only when i raise my trim, am i doing it wrong, should i get smaller props and get max rpm when the trim are at lowest position? my boat seems to have its nose really down when the trims are at their lowest position. even when the sea is rough i need to raise the trims to cruise around.

can anyone help

Re: prop size/rpm question

Optimal trim.

If you were to prop for max RPM in
full "in", your going to over rev once
you trim out.

You are naturally going to gain RPM
when you trim out, due to drag reduction.

Re: prop size/rpm question

I always trim up for max speed, even when crusing. I never leave it down except when planing.

Re: prop size/rpm question

My boat picks up it max speed 6 mph by going from normal mid trim to max trim at w/o throttle,i trim back in when cruising and trim WAY in when turning fast. Everyone i know with a modified motor in a baja or similar v boat w/pad bottom tells me they do the same. A exstension box or a shorty drive might make it different but until i run out of other things to do i'm going to continue doing it this way as i understand its normal. My max speed occurs trimmed like this at about 20 % slip too, anyone have any insight? Smitty
