454 MPI MAG cam??????
Hay there, can anyone help with a cam choice. I have a 454 mpi mag, just bought some cmi headers, Topline 110cc heads, rolla rockers etc. Not sure what cam to run but big seems a good place to start. Will get arizona marine to do the CPU to 5300 rpm? Hoping for 500hp. Am i on the money or Not??. Thanks

Re: 454 MPI MAG cam??????
there are many threads on this board that will go into depth on this subject. I just spent a year researching the same thing for my 502 mpi's. A couple of very important points- the correct cam is a direct reflection your head flow #'s...and bigger is not always better! Make sure you have acurate flow #'s and give them to your cam grinder. I used cam motion and they were great to work with. Also because your mpi is a speed/density setup, you must maintain a strong and stable vacume signal for it to work right. This means limiting your duration and overlap. That will also help with reversion althogh your cmi's are somewhat forgiving. use a cam with a 114 LSA and limit intake duration to no more than 230 at .050. I have a modified 502mpi with about 540 crankshaft HP. My specs are .590/.600- 228/233-114/110. That was matched to ported dart heads with good flow #'s. It idles great and no reversion with stainless marine exhaust. good luck-
