If you have the same setup then you will notice the nut is one of those ny-lock nuts with plastic inside of it to keep tension on the bolt threads. When you go to loosen the nut, it will loosen only so far then the bolt will loosen up and tension falls off and pulley falls down...when you go to tighten it back up, If you look on the back side of the bolt you will a "gear" and corresponding "teeth" back there and it will raise the pulley up and put tension on the belt and then the nut will tighten up and you should be good to go...its all basically automatic so to speak....hard to explain exactly but its very easy

Use a 5/16" wrench (I think, from what I recall) on the end of the idler pulley stud, rotate the 5/16" wrench to provide tension and hold it while you tighten the lock nut. It's a geared stud, like Wally points out.

Thanks to both of the above, I didn't see the 5/16" initially, good little system for tensioning. I got both Hardin SS impeller housings on yesterday as from what I can tell the plastic OE housings were original at 20 yrs. old and 235 hrs. Hoping to do my 1st "fun run" since having the boat in my possession (10/2015). It's been a long time comin'!

Old thread, and Tx. Wally for the great thread. Has anyone rebuilt the sea water pump housing? One of mine had grease on the inside of the pulley, and I'm thinking that I've got to rebuild this housing? I mean it turns fine, does not squeal or make any "Bad" sounds when running....
Tx.

They aren't hard to get apart. I remember seeing a thread on here a few years ago that had the aftermarket part #s for the bearings and seals. You might be able to find it in a search. They were just common bearing supply house parts.

Default Ran the boat with known impeller failure on starboard motors to get home

So I knew I had an impeller failure and was quite a way from home. Got the boat on plane and temp cam back to operating temp. Got to the launch and shut down starboard motor to not overheat it. Tool pump off today and can account for maybe 4 of 8 impeller blades. Where is best to back flush from to get rest of blades out?
