who sells raw water pressure releif valves

Re: who sells raw water pressure releif valves
My pressure pegs the gauge at 35psi when running. So far no issues, but the fix is on the to do list. I'm going to weld a couple of bungs to my silent choice valves and dump out them instead of drilling threw the transom. Last thing I need is for more thru hulls flowing water. People will think it really is sinking.

US1, you are running on borrowed time!
Just find CFM on the other forum and ask him!
He milkshaked at least TWICE =on the dyno= with that kind of water pressure!!
I just blew off hoses, so was lucky when I found the problem.
Man, oh man are you running on borrowed time!

Unfortunalty we do not have that kind of margin. And we bought them at the new price, last year we sold 150 of them so we loaded up. Have you ever heard the term "hold your breath" ?

Re: who sells raw water pressure releif valves
I think Merc realized that they have the best working piece for controlling water pressure, and hence the price increase. All of the aftermarket ones that I have seen have issues...
Most tend to leak early in the pressure cycle, reducing the available water volume...The Merc one does not do this. It opens basically only at the pressure setting of the valve.
In my mind at least, it's the best thing anyone can do to protect their motor, especially when running a thermostat with a crossover!!!!
Don't believe ANY of the manufacturers of crossovers who tell you that you can run a thermostat safely without a relief valve!!! It's hogwash!!

Re: who sells raw water pressure releif valves
Hi Fred:
What bothers me is that the spec sheet you just posted shows an initial flow at just 7psi, and full flow at 35psi... 35 psi is far too high, and flowing at 7psi reduces volume at lower pressures!
This is similar to others that I have looked at.
The Merc unit flows virtually NOTHING until a full release at 25psi!!
Believe me, I have nothing to do with Merc! In fact, I would LOVE to see an aftermarket part work as well...
Sorry.

Yeah, yeah, yeah. I know.
Actually, I bought 2 sets of SM exhaust a few months ago and as of now, I got 1 manifold replaced. Got to modify my oil filter/drive bottle mounts to clear the manifold to riser water hose. And they say it's a direct bolt on replacement. It's my winter project for this yr. to replace the remaining 3. Boat has a bit of list now. This will take care of the manifold gasket issues. Planning to do the relief valves at the same time.
