BOATING ON A BUDGET

I currently have a old Baja that I just had re-powered and I was thinking of getting another hull and I think I found the perfect deal.
well you tell me.
The fountain is a 1993 27 that needs a motor.
I want to buy a fast boat not try to make a slow boat fast.
the price is not for sure but it should be around 15-22000
Is there things i should now about that year and make of boat.
I just want to rip the new motor out of my 86 baja 5500lb tank and really enjoy the lake.
will i be happy with that old of a hull design?
do they hold up good and perform good?
the motor I have is a 365 mag with all edelbrock 110 cc heads roller rockers rpm intake 226 236 dur 550 lift holly 800 and stainless exhaust.
Will it work? or will I wish that I bought a newer boat.

Don't know for sure, but I think 70 for a 27' fountain with 365 hp is high hopes. Maybe 68-70 on speedo, but not GPS. That's just a guess though. Anybody else????

the motor is not stock 365 it should be in the 450 to 475 hp range.

A guy at my marina has a '27 with a 500HP. I think he runs about 73-74. If you want to go fast you got the right idea. Speed starts with the hull. Putting tons of HP in a slow hull is futile.

This I know for sure. Anything else is faster than a Baja !!! I should know, I'm on my third Baja. They make great boats and if you need to go fast you better have deep pockets and a whole lotta horsepower. Buy the Fountain. It will be faster and can better handle increased horsepower more safely.

My 1992 27' went 57 mph on a nordscog speedo with a stock 365 454.

I've run a best of 69 gps with 425hp, you should be at 70 -71 gps if you #'s are correct. I have over 300 hours and the only screw I've tightened is on the ladder. No offense baja guys but the fountain is put together, have fun, JC

well I guess i should keep on looking for another hull because they want to get 21000 for the boat with no motor and the interior needs work complete redone small flaws everywhere. and the windshield has a crack in the corner. and they decided that now the trailer is not part of the deal.
so i think i am still going keep the old tug bout unless something comes through .
