Help Vortec L29 heads
I built a .030 454 flat tops and Vortec heads. It lasted for 15 hrs due to running it with one tank of 87 octane and 36 deg total timing. It ran no problem with 94 octane but the marina I went to only had 87 and I was too lazy to back up the timing. I have built my short block back up but need a set of L29 heads yesterday. Can anyone please help? I have 2 months of boating left in the frozen north.

Re: Help Vortec L29 heads
I knew about keeping it to 32 deg max but my buddy was pulling away from me big time and my ego is much bigger than my brain. The 94 octane ran sweet with 36 deg total.

Andy,
You and I talked last year when you were putting your engines together.
I have a 1999 7.4MPI sitting in my basement that I'll pull the heads form if you like. Shipping to Canada is a problem for me though. It might cost more than the heads...

Andy,
Have you tried locally? Active Engines in Mississauga is worth a try, they do the Mercruiser rebuilds and should be able to help 905 855-1244.
