Re: Oil Filter for 454 Magnum
I am not sure how the filter mounts on that motor, but if you have a remote base similar to what comes on an HP500, you might look into a "truck style" filter which is almost two quarts in capacity. Fram # on that is HP-12, Napa # 1794 Gold, K&N # HP6002, also available from AC Delco, Wix, etc., but do not have those numbers available. Moroso also makes a pre-filter screen, part # 23845, the "sandwhiches" between the mount and filter, which catches any large particles before the filter, gives you an early indication of problems. Spray clean with carb cleaner and reuse. The truck filter is a little over 8" tall, so if you have the room, thats the way to go.

Re: Oil Filter for 454 Magnum
Hey Hydrocruiser... "Mr. Oil expert"
We all thank you for your valued input on lubrication.
My 2005 525's call for 25w-40 oil. I was using Mobile 1, but I can't find that weight.
(I'm in Florida, so cold weather is not a factor for me.)
Can I use another weight that is more available...
like 15w-50?
Thanks again for your input - Jerry

Re: Oil Filter for 454 Magnum
In warm climates a straight weight conventional is a must if you use a conventional; though 20W-50 Kendall is very good.. The 25W-40 is a straight weight blend and is similar in many respects to a straight weight 40.
In synthetic oils a multi-vis such as 15W-50 is acceptable as the oil has better film strength and resists heat and is good for average type offshore use. If you run hard, have hopped up mills or race...then a premium 20W-50 synthetic is best as they most resist breakdown.
