Default Open Hatch or run blower on cold start?

Hi all,
I never gave this much thought but now I'm running it by yall.
I have a large scoop on my motor hatch that is open above the aircleaner and can breath.
When I come down to the marina, I open the hatch, and look around and then start the motor.
Is that any better/worse, more or less effective then running the blower for a minute or two with the hatch closed.

Can fumes Settle to the bottom of an open bilge or would they rise out since the bilge is open to the scoop and outside air.

Anyone care to comment?
thanks

Wouldn't hurt to do both. That way you know for sure.

Gas fumes are heavier than air and fill from the bottom up. That is why the blowers run hoses down under the motor. I can't find it now but I am sure one of the CG Auxillary guys told me not to run the vent hose closer than 6 inches to the bottom of the bilge incase you get water in there. I'd rather risk water in the blower than fumes in the bilge.

Opening the hatch probably isn't going to help much.

Both...

It never hurts to do a cursory sniff test and visual inspection before each cold start... just cheap insurance

THE BLOWER THING IS A NO BRAINER , ALWAYS!

I usually pop the engine cover, and waft some air up to see if it smells like gas. Same technique can be used for checking your own gas (fart cupping). Ewwww.

yes, gas fumes can settle in the bottom of the bilge... always run the blowers, opening the hatch is always a good idea on at least the first run of the weekend to just check everything out....

I do both; open hatches to inspect then run blowers to exhaustl any fumes in the bottom of bilge.
