OT: Remote Starters
 

Ive been thinking of getting a remote starter on my 2004 F250 Diesel, and on my fiance's Ford escape. What is a good unit to buy? I would probably do the install myself, just because I hate other people touching my stuff :drink:

I just installed one yesterday on my winter beater. Pep Boys, $50. Bull Dog brand. Just the plain Jane model. Start and stop. The next up models also do power locks. It appears the plain one can also be tie in with a factory keyless system so you can just use your Ford keyless remote to start.

I just did my truck and my wifes jeep liberty... installed the Pursuit brand .....i believe its made by AudioVox.....but i think they are all made By a company called Avital and just re-branded. Anyway i actually used to install these as a full time job for about 2 years doing mainly dealerships all around highland park areas. They are nice bacause you dont have to add any relays to the system other then maybe for a ignition bypass for the chiped type ignitions. The alarm with remote start goes for about $100 if you have a connection.....plan another $20-25 for the bypass modual if you need one for your truck....on the fords i do believe you need one.


Also what ever system you get make sure there is a setting for diesels.....it wais a set time to let the glow plugs warm up....other systems just powerup and start cranking right away......

PM Buck183 on this - he did the one in my 2003 F250. I have the additonal FM remote that transmits up to 1/4 mile. I work on the 20th floor and I can start my truck in the parking lot below. :D :drink:
