I'm running a 16.5x26 on a 1986 302, with 454/420's that have been warmed over slightly. 5200 rpm. You know you can get an adadpter to run big shaft props.

When I Got The Boat I Took The Three Blade Hoss Props Which Were 16.5x28, Thru A Blade At 3000 Rpm And Decided To Make Wall Ornaments Out Of Them. But It Took Out The Housing In Front Of The Boot, Nothing 20,000 Cant Take Care Of. It Actually Broke The Glass On The Back Of The Boat. Then I Re Rigged , Went To 17x29 Kiekafer Wheels 4 Blade, And Ran 77.8gps With 1;1 Gear Ratio.

Would Like To Know About The Adapter That You Are Refering To. I Had One Made Up To Fit #6 Drives(props That Is) I Tried A Pair Of 17x33's But Killed The Boat Getting It On Plane. A Buddy Of Mine Tried The Same Wheels On His Cat With Arnesons It And He Had The Same Problem. I Was Able To Get It On Plane Twice But Will Not Do That Again. It Think The Wheels Were Scrap But Looked Good.

They are famous for throwing blades, my buddy goes through 3 sets a summer. You have to check for cracks in the blades after every run. Try doing a 10 or 12% overdirve to drop prop sizes. Also check all your steering links and trim ram links, any movement in them will increase chances in throwing blades.Use only Merc/Herring props, no reworked or repitched props.
