Default Rebuild Bravo Drives

Hey guys,

I was wondering if any one could tell me what I should pay to have my 1991 bravo drives gone thru.I need new down shafts installed,I already have them. The drives worked and performed perfectly before I took them off.I figure while they are in there I should have them resealed and what else should be done?Maybe bearings and races or what?I will be selling them when done and I dont want any issues so I want them done right. Also will the back cap off my bravo ones fit on my new XR drives.I know they fit the regular XR drives, but what about the new style XR?

Thanks,
Nordic95

sell them for parts, those old non-recuirculating drives are time bombs with any power in front of them.

Thumbs up Re: Rebuild Bravo Drives

1991 and newer are be the recirculating variety.
I have the Merc. Bravo service manual # 11 right in my lap.
Maybe sell the gears , and have Max machine install towers in the uppers, and Hd gears, and save as spares.
also xz lowers can be had cheap on e-bay.
I was going to go Konrad, but bought Imco with modified xz upper, and have spare drives to fall back on.
Im only running a single, you got double trouble.
I really recommend spare drives with a Bravo. BBB

Re: Rebuild Bravo Drives

GEE mine is ticking 88 with over 580hp on it since 1995 I baby it getting on plane to 2500rpms then all hell breaks loose thats why the boats called AIRTIME ITS Always running 4000 to 5200 rpm. I think the 88to 89 gen 1 bravo drives were ok you just have to throttle coming in and out of the water after a couple of races on the cape people can see it get's rough out here a lot bad think is that I just got a 2'' shortie, and now have to buy a newer drive to put it on. So I'll keep the 88 for a spare drive. watch the new used one will blow up this summer
