While the Globe impellor may run dry longer, what about the stock housing? Does the impellor keep the housing from being ate up to from the dry friction?

Yes, it is a 2000.
Here are some pics of the same impeller pictured above with 67 hours of use. It has been in the boat for three years.
2003 = 25 hours (old blower motor)
2004 = 15 hours (new 540)
2005 = 27 hours (not quite as new 540)
Yeah, I know, I don't get out much.

Needless to say (and since I had it apart), I replaced the impeller with a new Globe Blue. The housing looked good and the wearplates were fine.
I am still using the old two piece style housing.

Thanks RLW ... I'll probably pick up a couple for spares and swap 'em in next time round

Did you actually need the key for these things??? I do fine with the Merc stuff and swapping them in and out without any problems or keys ... so ... Thanks for the info!

I use the key and so should you. I believe it was a Merc part #.
It moves axially on the shaft, but has no apparent effect on the wearplates.

What bugs me about the Globe impellor is the sloppy fit on the pump shaft. Using the drive key they recommended (merc part #28-56662) it can rotate back and forth on the shaft too much.

What impressed me about the Globe company is that when I called to see if they had a key that fit better or if they were going to produce a better fitting hub (that didn't need a key), the President of the company called me back and spent about ten minutes with me on the phone.

This is Matt Koenig, Product Manager, Marine Products Division, Globe Composite Solutions. We manufacture the Run Dry impeller.

Lets adress your issues.

The new 2001 is a 3/4 single flat drive. It will fit much better.
THe 1000 and 2000 are still available for the older styles
Some of these posts are from 5 or more years ago.
THere has been constant and consistent evolution of the formula over that time with new ownership in 2004, as well

Please email me directly with any issues and concerns, I may be able to make it worth your while!

Thanks for all your support of GLobe

We will be booth 5126 at FOrt Lauderdale and booth 2052 at IBEX. Also booth q43 at Miami in Feb.

Matt Koenig again.

Dave, I think the president of the company was me!

While i wish I was the pres, I am just the Head of the Marine Products division.

Glad it all worked out and thanks for the kind words

We are always looking to tweaking the product and sheepdogging it on the trail to perfection.

I will sell 2 new globe impellers for 45.00 total, as I purchased them for a replacement, but I have the Jabsco pump replacements and they have 10 vanes per impeller for more flow and I dont want to lose that.
