Where to get good new or used surface drives???? Also, opinion on #4 drives?
Hello everyone and how are you... I am re-powering my 47' Fountain and would like to use Surface drives... Does anyone know the best place to find new or used surface drives??
I have also been considering using a #4 set up.. Advantages / Disadvantages?? How much power can this set up take? Thanks for the help.

You're considering SSMIVs?
If so, kind of a bad idea, they've been discontinued a long time and parts are getting hard to find. Go for an SSM IIIa or V if you want merc stuff.
As for surface drive, Rik on the board is with Arneson. Cant get a better source than that.

I have some two driveline Transome assemblys for #6 drives and one # 6 drive with a 1.5 ratio that are going for sale if you want the big dogs.

Re: Where to get good new or used surface drives???? Also, opinion on #4 drives?
Hello everyone and thank you for all of the great information!!! The power really depends on the drive capacity. I had planned on building a set of worked 540's... which will probably see 700hp without a blower. I have no problem with 600hp motors though... and that could also be an option.
At this point I am looking to save some $$$$ I am building a house in Apollo Beach, FL on the water... boat is almost too big for my dock.... also have a little boy on the way (in 3 months)... so again, I am keeping an eye on my wallet but would still like to hit 70+mph.
If anyone has a good set of drives they'd like to sell... shoot me a pm...
Thanks!
