Stereo Experts, need bass tube advice
My boat has an Alpine MRPF320 amp with a channel for a subwoofer, the specifications for that are (100 watts RMS x 2 bridged output + 120 x 1 at 4 ohms)
my question is this, I want to hook up a Bazooka Marine Bass Tube either the 8 or 10 inch model, preferably the 10, its specifics are this:
4-ohm impedance
frequency response 39-1,000 Hz
RMS Power Handling 200 watts
Peak Power Handling 400 watts approx.
I'm thinking this should plug right in without any problems , and that the bass tube can actually handle more than the amp is able to give it, is this correct? Opinions/suggestions please.
Thanks,
M

You're on the right track, everything sounds like a good match.
As far as power goes, there is really no such thing as too much power from amp to subs. Power = driver control and unless you are a hammer-head you should be good.

Sub's are power hogs. I would not recomend running the Sub off the same amp as your mains. Even though you amp is setup from the factory to do just that. Unless you are always listening at lower volume levels you wont be happy with it. The power supplies on all but the very expensive amps can't supply enough power to drive the amplifiers.
Buy a good Class "D" amp for the sub and you will be in great shape.

Not enough juice. Buy a single channel amp that makes anywhere between 200 and 400 watts at 4 ohms. It's better to lean towards the higher side of the numbers. Class D is good for this application because they don't draw as much current or make as much heat as Class AB's will. Look for an amp that has a crossover with a slope rating of 24db/oct as well. Setting a crossover around 80 to 100 hz for a sub will have good results as well.

I have one under my rear bench (bazooka tube) just to round out the bottom.
Only needs a couple hundred watts normally... but I would not use an underpowered amp in bridge mode to make that happen.
I prefer running a larger amp unbridged.
But I do like that enclosure for my needs. Sounds good.

Bazooka also makes the same tube that comes with a 150 watt amp inside, coupled with sub channel on my amp should this be enough juice?

Well first of all you can't "stack" those amplifiers. Now the self powered tube's amp SHOULD be a good match for the speaker, it's still not a lot of juice but it is easy.

KX1200 is a great amp for subs...I'm surely hoping you won't hook it up to a bass tube..totally a waste...That amp can drive a pair of 12's or even a 15 like mad.
