Default Outdrive Problem

My TRS drive moves out but it wouldn't move back in. When I hit the IN switch the pump would make noise like the drive should move but the drive wouldn't move. It would move out but not in. What do you guys think could be the problem? I did check the fluid and it was ok.

Check the seals on the outside of the trim ram. If they are pushed out and swollen that could be the culprit. The seals sometimes swell and salt collects around the ram at the end cap and will not let the ram back in. The ram can go out because the trim pump makes more pressure going out than in.

Check those end caps. Also, I looked around for another carb and I'm sorry to say we dont have anything right now. I will keep a look out though.

Thanks John,

I went ahead an bought a new 750 racing carb and the engine runs better than ever. In reference to my problem, I also think it could be the ram because I heard squeeking noises that sounded like it was coming from the ram. So, where exactly do I find the endcaps on the ram? Is their one or two endcaps? Thanks

Good to hear about the carb deal, glad everything is running great.

The end caps are located on the rear most end of the trim ram. You have a tube that is bolted to the gimble ring and the ram that is bolted to the rear of the outdrive. Where the ram slides in and out of the tube is where the end caps are with seals located in them.
Take a look at this picture. Its #17. #16 is the seal.
