Default Turbine boats

Just watching Powerboat Television and they featured MTT, Marine Turbine Technology. They say that you can drive a turbine powered boat the same way you would a gas engine boat.
It seems like that would be a lot of strain on the turbine blades to be out throttling over waves in the ocean. I know in the power plants (much bigger and different turbines) the operators baby those things, especially during start up when you have thermal expansion.

Any thoughts? Can you really treat these things like piston engines?

You can throttle them the same basic way you throttle a gas engine powerd boat.

There are no undue stresses upon the blades as you stated. They are just pushing more or less air.
