Still stalls when shifting - FIXED - what was found, uh oh!
As you may recall, one of my fresh re-built motors would stall when shifting in gear.
After taking back to engine builder (he reset IAC) and have Mark in LA do some different programs w/o much luck, I had my Merc tech look at it. He too checked IAC, injectors, grounds, TPS and more.
Finally he thought to recheck the timing. The base timing was set at 20 degrees!! He reset the timing to 9 degrees and now the motor shifts fine!!!
NOW the big question, was there any damage to the motor? It was run about 8 hours like this. Mostly under 4000 rpm, but it was also run hard for a little while.
Your thoughts???

That is one hell of a good question, 8 hours is a long time with bad timing. I would give it a good going over, compression and bore scope. Hopefully it will be a waste of time but sure will make you feel better.

Bill,
Do you have the 500 EFI's in your boat?
I have had that issue and one other and Mark at Precision has been great to work with. I will have my ECM's back from him tomorrow and plan to check my base timing first thing at his suggestion.
Thanks

It wasn't run hard for 8 hours, mostly no wake speed and cruise of 3100 - 3500 RPM's.
But there WAS some WOT speed runs and a good run of 3800 - 4500ish RPM's for about 30 minutes.
