Default What's this in my exhaust? Is this causing my milkshake oil?

I'm in the process of pulling the heads to see why I'm getting water in my oil.

The starboard side of the engine, back two cylinders have very scaly deposits in the runners. I've only had my dana exhaust on the boat for approx 15 hours of running. All the other runners look okay. Is this what coolant would look like leaking into the combustion chamber?

You should run a leak down before you go tearing the motor down. You could also run a pressure check on the cooling system to see if there's a leaky head gasket.

Did you have the water problems before or after installing the exhaust? Any visible signs of water in the exhaust manifold when you took it off? Pressure check those exhaust manifolds and pipes while your at it.

But to answer your question; yes those are deposits from water.

They are almost new Dana Marine exhaust manifolds. I think the heads were leaking- they're at the machine shop getting pressure tested now.

Here's a shot of the cylinders- I think the brown one was drinking water.
