Default Oil Cooler help

Looking for a little help on up sizing oil cooler on a 502MPI. I am looking at thermostatic control also. I have been looking at the Hardin coolers with thermostatic control. Seems about the most economical choice I have found so far. As most I am looking still so other choices would be nice.

Looking at remote thermostats most are pretty pricey. I would rather buy it built in to the cooler than go the perma-cool stat route.

Motor has a Tyler upgrade and CMI headers. Oil temps are or have always been a little high on extended runs of 4000rpm and above. Will be adding closed cooling down the road also.

Thanks this site has also been a great resource of info.

You may want to look at the Mocal Sandwich adapter. This will eliminate 6 fittings that have a smaller ID than your lines. Draw it out using the remote T-stat and remote filter and compare the number of fitting used. You will need to have clearance to mount the filter. Tight but usually room.

See Mocal Products along left then half way down.
Then Aeroquip for socketless hose and fittings.
I will be using the 1/2 npt to 12 an to to come out of the Sandwich adapter and into the cooler and back again. Only 4 fittings required instead of 10.

Thanks BD.

Not sure I have room for sandwich thermostat and filter since this is a single engine and sits low in the bilge. I like the idea of easy access to change filter mounted remote.

BD or anyone tried or have thoughts on Mocal Laminar coolers? http://64.202.180.37/files/laminova.pdf

I finished a complete oil system upgrade just a few weeks ago. I used a thermostatically controlled combo cooler, oil filter mount and block adapter all from Hardin Marine. All parts have 3/4 inch npt fittings which allow you to use larger lines than merc used. All of the parts were of first rate quality and I would HIGHLY recommend their products.
