stand off box on htm sr24
I have a htm sr24 with a 12in stand off box and I was wondering if it is a good thing to have or should i take it off. I talked to htm to day and thay told me that thay do not put them on there boats. See the problem Iam having is that the boat has 710hp and it is doing 80 htm says with that hp there boats do 90 and thay dont run a stand off box.Could the box be my problem?I didn't put the box on so i dont know how it was with out it.Thanks for the help!!

Re: stand off box?
I have no experience with cats whatsoever but I recently installed a 12 " stellings box my self on my v-hull and it hurt every aspect of its performance. The things I would study before removing it is this: what is your prop slip compared indentical hulls with same power and props at top speed, does it porpoise more than other sr24's or cavitate? If it is in the "neutral position" or raised at all? If it is raised and your boat had a ideal x dimension to start with your boat should have a higher slip factor than equal boats which would slow you down. I just installed a 1" drive spacer to see if it helps in my application but haven't tested it yet,if my performance, drivability and speed return to what they were before I installed it but there is no positive gain then my feelings is its just another 100 pounds hanging on the back of the boat that needs to come off,Smitty

Re: stand off box?
It seems like there is some drag like to much of the transem is in the water at high speeds. Before I got the boat somebody got the lower drive cut 2in but there was a 1in spacer in there. So I took the spacer out and it seems better but there still seems to be drag.
