Why bother cleaning bottom of boat?
Mine sits in the water all summer.
The marina winterzing it offers a cleaning service that removes the green stain stuff on the bottom and outdrive.
If it's gonna get green and gross again, is there any reason why i'd pay them to clean it? Enlighten me.

Mine sits in the water all season as well. I pull it out 3-4 times a season and clean the green chit off. I clean up the interior at the same time.
Why do I clean the bottom? I figure the longer the green chit stays on the the hull, the harder it will be to get it off. Could be wrong but who knows. Plus, simply put, it looks like hell !!
Oh, a gallon of Muriatic acid costs about $3.00 so cost isn't a factor.

Works very well. Nasty chit to use, stay up wind of the fumes. I put it in a 1 gallon garden type sprayer. Adjust the nozzel to a stream. That way you can shoot the stuff all over the bottom. Disolves/removes stains almost instantly so have the hose/water ready for a quick and thorough rinse.
It plays hell on aluminum and or bare metal but will not hurt the gel. Just be sure and cover/protect aluminum.

Re: Why bother cleaning bottom of boat?
it slows the boat down
it's not good for the gelcoat
it will lower value over time
if it sits in the water, put something on it to keep the crap off. I use Scatt, it sprays right on and it really helps to keep it clean, at least in the fresh water where i boat. it keeps the yellow stain off really well, now i just have to get in the water and brush the scumline off once a week or so.
