Just sell that engine and buy a GM 502 Marine Crate engine and be done with it. This way you'll have a brand new engine and wont have the headaches most people have after a rebuild. I wish I went that route when I first blew my engine. The time I finish rebuilding mine the cost was just as much as a new crate engine and half the time my ass was in the engine compartment. I finally was fed up with the problems so I yank it out and dropped a Crate in. Since Im no engine re-builder this was the best option for me. Plus I was back on the water within a week. Just my .02

I have to edit my post. After some investigating by Bob and a question or 2 by me these blocks do take the stated 1 or 2 piece style pans. The problem lies in the fact the mains are wide on these could interefere with the oil pans.

splayed mains mean that the outer bolts on the main cap go in at an outwared angle, ( Looks like this / ) instead of straight down.(like this | ) That way they go into more of the meat of the block. Totally not needed with what you are building. This is a drag/circle track race item.

siamesed means that the cylinders are right next to each other, with no empty space between them that water will flow through. Again, this makes the block more ridged, but not needed for what you are doing. Cylinders would look like this OOOO, instead of like this O O O O.

I'm really just daydreaming at this point. However, I do get a company discount on parts and there is a SPO warehouse about a mile from my house .....

Ian,

See if they have a pair of Mark 4 Bowtie blocks ( Tall Decks ) in stock. I would like to get a extra set for spares just in case something happens to my originals. Here are the numbers.

Cast #: 14044807
GM#: 14044808
