I'll just have to figure out if it's worth the trouble of pulling the motor and putting on the $5k in parts for that extra power (75HP?). I'd hate to build a new motor when this one is basically new. Unless it blows up, then I'd build up a 540. Guess I'll just leave it alone for now.

Yes I got the right senders- Faria gauges- Faria senders. I'm going to leave it all alone, maybe do a 540 next year if I decide to keep the boat.

there is or was a nice 250blower/cooler and carb for sale in the classifieds the guy is down to 2500 for it. I passed on in in sept he wanted 3000. so I spent about 1800 picking up 20hp with a nickerson carb and new flame arrester lines went from 647 to 670 old carb was off a bg. I also have 510cu,so I thought I would wait and get a bigger blower in a couple of years. he ran a 540 with that blower so your 454 would pick up a 150 hp, with your stock set up easy maybe more, a lot more 250hp with the roller set up and cam keep the heads.

Blower is a good idea, but I don't want to cut a hole in my engine hatch- and i only have 3/4" from the hatch to my 2" flame arrestor with my edelbrock air-gap intake.
I think I'll wait a year and get a dynoflo, JC perf, or Roccard 540 engine if I keep the boat.

I did a build on that exact engine back in '98. I went with a set of fully ported Merlin heads and the 731 cam. I blueprinted the short block and milled the heads to get the compression up to 9.4:1. I never dyno'd it, but the boat picked up an honest 7 MPH. You will have to spin the engine to 5600-5800 rpm though. More cubes is always nice, but the 454 in a light boat like your 22 will work very well. In your case I'd get a good set of heads with small combustion chambers and use some .027 Cometic gaskets to get the compression up. Just for the record, that 454 is in it's 3rd boat and still running great.

I PUT 110 CC GM ALUMINUM HEADS WITH SRP PISTONS 10.71:1 COMP.FULL ROLLER RETRO ZZ502/502 CAM 502 INTAKE AND A 750 HOLLEY. ALL THIS ON A 91 7.4 IN A 21 SCARAB. SPEED WENT FROM 59.9 AT 5000 RPM TO 71.2 AT 4600RPM STILL TESTING PROPS SO I CAN GET TO 5150RPM.
WOULD LIKE TO HIT 75MPH ESTIMATED HP IS 530
SO YES I THINK THE GAIN WOULD BE WORTH IT

OH, I'd love a blower- but I don't want to cut a hole in my engine hatch. I only have 3/4" clearance right now.
