Default Sea Water Strainer Question

I have just replaced my raw water pumps for the third time this year. It seems that I keep picking up sand and shells when I run the boat up on our local sand bar. Now before you guys suggest that I learn how to drive, let me assure you have I am very careful. My question is just what will strainers stop? I know they will stop the plastic bags, seaweed, etc., but will they stop sand and small shells?

Thanks
Dail

Try Fred at Trick marine. He sells some that will catch the sand and crap.

What happens when the filter gets full/ cloges/stoped up from the sand ? Starves to motor of water?

I would think a sea pump goes out slowly and you might notice a drop in water pressure or higher engine temps.

I would keep a eye on the gage after each time you beach it just incase.
