hydraulic steering too slow
needs some advice with my steering. i recently purchased a 40 ft converted trawler, wood/carvel. i was amazed at how many turns it took for either port/stb full lock (15) i counted them.... oobviously i would prefer to be around 3-4 turns to get a full lock either way, so u can imagine how difficult it is to get this thing alongside a wharf etc.
i have no idea what the system is (brand) only that is has two hyd arms pushing the rudder pivot. is this problem associated with the pump, the length of the hyd arms, or a leak somewhere?
your help is appreciated

Re: hydraulic steering too slow
if it is manual hydraulic, another words NOT using a power steering pump off the engine, then look to see if there is a small black plastic knob on the bottom of the helm unit itself which will turn both counter and clock wise, increasing the amount of turns lock to lock.
if it is power assisted hydraulic using a pump you may have a mounting issue, possibly air, or possibly a malfunctioning helm.
hynautic, seastar, teleflex, are a few brands of mechanical systems
good luck
