bassett jet boat headers
kinda new to the performance boating thing and I have an older set of bassett jet boat headers. they have the water bungs on the bottoms of the tubes. can i use these on my I/O boat? will they still function the same as the CMI type headers? can i inject water back in them from the water lines on the bottom or will it hurt something. seems like it could go real bad real quick...was thinking that i could throw the water back into the exhaust right after the collectors and not get water back into the engine.
Am i just dreaming?
Thanks for the help and please dont laugh to much...

Re: bassett jet boat headers
Jet boat headers are not water jacketed and are not approved for closed engine compartments. They have weep holes at the bottom of each elbow to drain excess water and run way too hot.
Or are you talking about the cast aluminium log style headers?

Re: bassett jet boat headers
not cast. the old school jet boat headers/ i was thinking of coating them tigh that crazy 2500 degree coating and running water back in the exhaust at the collector. according to the coaters, you can touch the header when the car is running if you use the coating. 1.5%hp increase.
does it sound at all possible?

I wouldn't go that route... sell the Bassetts to someone in the jet boat crowd and spring for the right stuff. Better to be safe than sorry!!

It won't work for the reasons listed as well as they more than likely won't even line up with the exhaust holes in the transom.
As far as 1.5% HP gain??????? You will create more heat in your engine compartment and loose power.

I have a Cole drag boat with the water injected Bassett headers you are talking about. You absolutely can NOT run them in a stern drive application, they get WAY too hot, and they weep a lot of water out of the bottom at lower speeds.
