Drive Question: 28ft / 5300lbs / 750hp - Would a Bravo XR work?

Bravo style outdrive 750hp race application will never hold up real well, will need to be torn down every race and inspected-rebuilt.You probably will blow a few in a couse of a season.I would invest in a larger outdrive like a Konrad,Mercruiser speedmaster 3,4,5, or possibly b-max.In the long run it will be the cheapiest and best route. The boat will probably loose a little speed but you need to finish to win!

I couldn't agree more. Anything less than about 12% is a big issue if you’re running over 600HP or worse yet 1000HP...
Now if someone could build a shiftable drive that handles 2000HP, we'd be all set.

Bad Intentions,
My friend has a 5700# boat with close to 800hp and runs a standard Bravo 1 and it has survived for years, so if you drive it the way you describe and it is setup properly, it can live.
