We have not experienced your example ? Do you have a picture you could show ? Well like all good quality parts there are sacrifices. We have found the life span to exceed double your example and then some. Yes they will wear out over time just like your sea pump impeller does. So here's the option, service them annually for cheap or listen to your boat bang, slam, smack, and sound like the motor has a rod knock. It's just a preference. We have sold every style ever created and have delt with hundreds of dissatisfied metal flap owners. From the silicone rubber melting off of the metal flap to the cracking and breaking metal rods to the bushings wearing out on the shafts. In the end pick your poison. The Hardin Tips are manufactured from premium 316L stainless steel and use the same reinforced rubber compound found in OEM tips (note Mercury refuses the clankers. The Hardin Tip allows easy flap servicability without removing the tip or hose..)

I do not have a pic this moment. Boat is at engine builders, but I plan to get it back this weekend.
I spoke w/ one of your staff@Miami show. Was told to send them back for evaluation and possible replacement. Once I yank them off the boat, they will be in route to you. I will take a picture of all 4 and post them as requested.
