Fuel pump Priming?
I have a 454 420 HP. I replaced the mechanical fuel pump and all the lines going to the carb are dry. I am trying to start the motor and I'm not getting any fuel to the carb. My question is so I have to prime the fuel pump or is it self priming? Any other tips or tricks to get fuel in the lines?
Thanks

Hi Evan,
You do not want to crank and crank on the engine to get fuel if you have a flat tappet camshaft. You risk hurting the lifters and cam. Best is to use a squeeze bottle and a small rubber hose to fill the fuel bowl through the vent on the top. Then press down the accelerator pump arms until you get fuel out of the squirters. Then you should be ready to start it.
