496 offshore mounts
i am repowering a 38 formula with 496's and replacing the 502's that where in there. the boat is rigged with offshore motor mounts and they are 2 solid chunks of rust. who makes a dedicated 496 offshore mount that i can use? i cannot seem to find a set anywhere. seems from what i am hearins is that the standard big block mount will not work and will interfere with the oil pan. i pulled a 496 out of a 25 baja outlaw a few years ago and it had a offshore mount that used the stock perch and had a box tubing cradle with a large stud that threaded through the perch like a stock mount would but just had no adjustment up or down. i just cannot remember who made it or if it would even work for my application. any help would be great. it seems that they are made and out there i just cannot find a manufacturer's name.

I had the exact problem when I replaced a 454 with a 496. The offshore mounts wouldn't work because of the pan. My marina had to fabricate new mounts using welded steel. It wasn't a big deal.

ok so after numerous phone calls i found out gil makes a 8.1 specific offshore mount which utilizes the factory perch's. so when you set them up you can use the mercury marine jig for alignment. they make them for single engine and twin engine applications. hope this help anyone else out there that has run into this problem.
