Post Looking for supplier of GM 383 HT 325 HP

Am repowering a 27' Century pleasure boat and had an anemic 350 250Hp vortech dog of a motor in it.
Wanted to get GM # 12497317 motor as it would be perfect as a drop in for this application I did my homework and it's already marinized.
Trouble is , Gm no longer offers it and the motor that superceded it is not a marine engine.
The "317" motor had 415 Ft lbs of torque at 3500 and made 325 Hp at 4500 exactly where I prop these type of boats to anyway.
The motor I want has lots of low end torque.
I don't feel like building another motor right now and boat is ready to go back together.
I don't want to put a big block in it, I want to use all of the accessories from the 350 because they are not very old and are serpentine and big block will be harder to work on in this application. BBB

I have a buddy that just put a 383 from dyna-flo in a boat. Just getting it broke in but it runs really well. I think it was around 4500 complete.

No, I'm just trying to help my friend out.
I did something really different yesterday, I hung a 70 Hp outboard and rigged it up on a clamboat for another friend.
I really don't find it worthwhile to work on anything other than Mercruiser inboards and I/o's . That 70 Hp evinrude had it's driveshaft changed and I had to get a newer style impellor so I had to run around and waste precious time.
I stock most of the mercruiser parts and have them with me in my van. That plus the tools and knowledge. Everytime I deviate from my area of expertise , I tend to loose out , like finding out that you cant buy parts for the omc spitfire ign. and so forth. I do too many favors for friends. Like working on a friends boat with old 318's and spent about a week on it.
So it's a chevy and a mercruiser motor so I'm all over it.

Thanks, $5700 seems real steep.
I can bring a block to the shop and get an eagle crank rods etc. and get it blueprinted for way less. That's what I think I'm gonna do.... I have the vortech heads and the 4 barrel marine vortech intake for a holley squarebore. BBB

I know the feeling about the favor thing. I'm done working on old outboards, the last few I did I thought would be a simple tune-up, replace pump, seal, etc. They both turned out to be a nightmare, and the friends aren't so happy when you tell them what the parts are gonna cost. Meanwhile my own boat needs attention.

Did a dealer locator on the part number you supplied, and this place shows to have 1 in stock. The name of the place is C & O Motors in WV. Their number is 304-727-2921. Im not sure what they want for it, but since its a discontinued part, they may want it out of there, and might let it go cheap. Steve
