Default leak down test proceedure?

what is the best way to perform a leak down test. i have all the guages but have heard of two different ways to do it.
id like to check mine, just in case, but i need to know the proper steps to take to be accurate.

warm engine and use a gauge setup that uses 100psi or higher, some of the low pressure models are not very good to use

been doing some reading....

should rockers be loosened so both valves are closed? i assume so.
piston should start at TDC and then fall to BDC when psi is applied correct?

you want to lock engine down at TDC so it does not turn, test is at TDC, both valves will be closed at tdc compression stroke
