Default Mando Alt. Merc vs. Volvo

I am need of a Mando alternator. Found a good deal on a new one at ebay. It is for a Volvo and not Merc. It looks like the only difference is the mechanical connection of the wires. Is anyone aware of other difference?

Here is the pic of the Merc alt

and the Volvo

That's it as far as I know. The quesiton is, do you want to re-wire a brand new alternator? And if you do, would you loose the USCG approval on it? I wonder if an insurance adjustor would have a problem with it.

DB Electric on the web. They have badass one wire alt for very low prices. I've been running one of their 105 amp alt for over 2 years now.

Tried one wire alts, they just don't put out the current until they are spinning high. They may be capable of charging a dead battery rapidly but in my experience they do not charge a mildy discharged battery with much.

If it is only the electrical connection that would involve a ring terminal or two.

I agree, based on your recommendation I bought one and I am very happy with it it just takes a blip of the throttle to start charging.
