Q. What is a redneck boater's favorite cure for vapor lock?????
A. OUTBOARD PRIMER BULBS!!!!!!!
With the symptoms that keep reappearing every time the engines sit for about an hour after shutdown, I was always convinced that this was a vapor lock issue.
To temporarily "cure" the problem, I installed a primer bulb in each line between the tank and water separators. After warming up the engines to temp and shutting down for an hour or so I re-started both and let them idle for a minute or two , then when they began sucking fumes I pumped the primer bulb a couple times and PRESTO, they kept running!!!!!!
I'll be installing mechanical pumps(just as t500hps mentioned Mercruiser did on '02 and later models) to take care of the problem permanently.
Maybe this "fix" will help someone else.
