Help with my 502 oil bypass??
i,ve read a few things about an oil bypass in here but nothing detailed enough to know whats going on here. i've got a 502 from the early "90s" and it runs the oil temp up if i cruise over 3500 rpm. i felt the oil lines as soon as the oil got to 150 and i feel some heat so there has to be some oil passin thru but how much?? if i keep my revs down the temp stays under 220 also i've heard that if i'm bypassing the (cooler/ filter) that i might have 5-10 psi less oil press. which would be right in line with what i'm seeing here!! one more note, i just had the bottom end opened up looking for a low oil press. problem and found that the engine builder was heavy handed with the locktite which left a nice size piece stuck in the oil pump relief. that got back +or- 15psi of my missing oil press.

Do a search on oil bypass. There is much info on this subject. I had posted pictures of the passages in out and around the oil filter. I believe the good bypass you need is the 35psi one.
