Merc 300 Verado vs 300 Optimax vs 2.5 OS
Outboard Experts,
I am in need of an education and would like any comments. I am thinking about acquiring a 30ish Skater Cat. I would like to put a pair of newer outboards on the hull. Is there a clear favorite between 300 optimax, 300 verado, 2.5 OS, or other high performance OB? Also does anyone have an idea of the pricing for each of these motors? I appreciate any guidance.
Thanks

300xs.....about 130lbs lighter than a verado and can be had with high performance lowers for high speed. IMO

I am not all that concerned about gas mileage...unless it is absolutly aweful. I would rank my preferneces as such: reliability, speed, price, gas mileage. I have heard very mixed reviews about the 2.5 OS. I am a little hesitant to get into a motor that needs to be in the shop often. I noticed the verado is heavier than the optimax, yet it is a smaller v-6. The bottom line is I would like a setup that can get me close to 100 and wouldn't break often. Is there a big price diffrential on the three motors? Thanks again for the help.

The 2.5 offshore is designed and built for that application. . Verado is not suited, the 300 could be made to work. Check and see e what the manufactures recommend of the boat you choose recommends.

The new 300xs! Great gas milage, good relability, and will do 100+ on a 30ft motion, skater or spectre.
Mine with 300x's will do 104.
Hope this helps!
