Unfortunately during a survey I often find wood rot in the most unususal places. Washdown, (fresh) water gets trapped forward and gets absorbed through the limber holes in the stringers. If you open a hatch and smell a "sweet" odor, it's probably wood rot.

You should see what a termite infested boat becomes! You'd welcome the rot!
