griff, not sure about your info, if you read my post on marine lube you will see that I just bought the 4 qt jug of ep & they only had gold cap now which is the latest production as evidenced by the promotion info on the package. I am concerned as to what it really is as none of the wiz kids have tested it yet. they tested the silver cap and found it to be almost as good as the old red cap and much better than the "old gold cap". did find a local store w/ some silver cap qts and jugs still but it is on its way out.

I think only Walmart carries 5 qts in the silver cap. Its less tahn $20 for 5 qts. They just started carrying it again in the 15-50 in the Spring. I got some in August. It could be regional thing as well.

Just read your post in the other thread. i don't think there is any problem using the gold cap/ep. I used it for a couple oil changes when the silver cap was not being made in 15-50. The only thing is in boats, we really don't need the EP because oil gets changed more often. The silver is also about 50% less money.
I'll have to go check WM here and see what they have. I'll stock up on the Silver if they still have it.

I just got some silver cap 15-50 in the 5 qt jugs a Walmart today. Price went up a couple bucks and its now about $22. They had the gold cap/ep as well and it was $30 a jug.

Mobil 1 Red cap, reformulated into Gold cap step down from Red, now reformulated to Silvercap old Red cap formulation maybe a little bit better. (It says new formula on the 5qt. jug from Wal-Mart) $24.95 where I get it.
