those headers will not fit a 454 and you will gain about 50hp on the 496ho

Hmmmmm, I read here http://www.offshoreonly.com/forums/s...ht=496+exhaust That the 496 exhaust will work in place of the stock 330/454 exhaust. If this is the case why wouldn't the headers work?

The torque curve was incredible, at 2500 RPM's it was over 500 ft lbs, and through 90 percent of the range it never dropped below 550 ft lbs.
Thanks for the reply! How was the torque with the stock manifolds after the raylar was installed?

The gentleman that sold all this to me did dyno his set up. He also did the ECM upgrade. He was making 565HP on the dyno. Don't know about torque. He did say Raylar thought reversion would be a problem with the stock exhaust.

I am not sure I need to max the engine out. I am more interested in the holeshot and midrange. Extra topend is a plus though. The pachanga will be my wild ride! Either exhaust system should help my pachanga and 1/2 way keep my budget inline!

Another concern I have is the ECM upgrade raises the rev limiter to 5450 RPM's. Will the 496 handle the extra RPM's with reliability on a stock bottem end? It's a 2003.

I would hesitate to call Ray because I didn't buy the system from him. Of course I would be very pleased if he were to offer his comments and advice here!

I've talked to Ray on a couple of occasions and he has always been very good to talk with and very helpful and I haven't bought anything from him yet. It's worth a try--all he can do is hang up--and I doubt that--he's a good guy. The product still has his name on it.

Wink Even used Raylar kits are popular !

Pachanga:

I think you will be very pleased with the Raylar kit you purchased form Lee. With stock 496 exhaust the kits make about 595 ft/lbs of torque on a stock block 496 and about 605 to 610 Ft/lbs on a 496 equipped with the Raylar kit and a true header/manifold system like the Dana exhaust. As for Rpms, the weak link in a stock 496 is the valve train. with our specially equipped aluminum heads, with special springs retainers, lightweight valves , roller rockers and cam you have in the kit the 5400rpm limit will not be any problem! Enjoy!! If you need a set of installation instructions let me know.
As for the Dana exhaust not fitting on a 454 or 502, that is not rue. the cylinder head exhaust configuration and dimensions on all three are the same. You would just not need the Dana 496 engine kit but a standard equipped set.

Raylor, Thank You very much for your reply! So am I OK to run the factory 496 exhaust with the kit? Lee seemed to think there might be a concern about reversion.

Lee is sending the installation guide! Thanks for the offer. Is it OK to reuse the Rockerarm nuts?

The 496 headers are a nice low cost upgrade vs the stock 330 manifolds. Not huge performance gains but better looks, less weight and a little better flow.

Wink

Pachanga:

Don't worry about reversion on the stock exhaust. It will not be any problem. There are over 100 owners like yourself running the kit with stock exhaust for a few years now and never had a reversion problem. The headers will raise the horsepower to about 560HP but even then reversion will not show its ugly head!

Good Luck and Have fun!

Regards,
Ray @ Raylar
