Default Engine re-mapping

Is it possible to gain more power from Mercruiser mpi petrol engines by remapping them as you can with car engines.

If so how much extra power can you get and who does it?

Thanks

I am sure it is possible to fine tune them. You must be very knowledgeable and have the right equipment. There are a few guys selling software so you can do it yourself, but just remember a marine engine is very different from a car motor.

If your going from 87 octane to 91 octane, its certainly possible. Typically speaking, with 5deg's more timing, you can gain about 30hp and possibly 40lbs of torque. If you had a 454/502 magnum, those are easy to get another 30hp, 500hp efi's were a bit tougher. So it really depends on what your working on. I highly recommend sending it to someone that has prior knowledge, getting software and trying to do it yourself can be a true nightmare.

When they tune the ECU's is it done with the boat in the water running or on a dyno?

Is tuning important after fitting headers and dry pipes?
