Default Cam and reversion

When speaking of reversion should you be concerned with the duration numbers of the intake or exhaust or both?

I concern myself with the amount of swept volume downward of the piston whilst the exhaust valve is still open. Better known on the cam card as EVC (exhaust valve close). Less is better.
