Help with Mercathode wiring
Can anyone tell me which wires go where on a mercathode? There are 4 posts on the controller, +, -, R, S. There are two wires coming through the transom plate, one orange, one brown that I believe go to the cathode controller. There are two wires coming out of the wiring harness that I believe go to the cathod controller and they are orange and brown. I can't find the wiring schematic anywhere and do not understand the operation of the whole system. I know it is for corrosion control, and think it created a low voltage current flow to the outdrive, but am really only guessing. Any help is greatly appreciated as alway.

Alright buddy.
From the outdrive electrode unit going thru the transom plate, Orange wire to "A". (there is no "S")
Brown wire to "R".
'-' post will have a black wire from ground. Also, if you have electrical trim senders, not mechanical ones, will also have another black wire going to that post from the trim sender unit.
'+' post will have a red/purple wire from a 12V source.
Hope this helps.

It helped a lot Jerry, Thanks! My bad on the S, your right, it's an A. I think I got it now, just seem to have an extra brown wire coming out of the main harness. Must be for something else so I better unhook it from the R terminal.
Talk to ya later,

BT,
IF you have the elctrical trim sender on your outdrive, a Black wire and Black wire with a brown or purple sleeve on it will come from it. Also will have a Brown/White wire coming from your trim gauge from dash. Possibly that could be the 2nd brown wire you mention?
If this is the case, the Blk wire w/sleeve from trim sending unit AND the BRN/WHT wire from the trim gauge will both be connected together, possibly on the lone screw to the rt of the "R" terminal, but below the mounting screw. This is all from my Merc Servive manual.
Good Luck

I tried to reply to your question twice! My laptop froze up and can't recover windows Compaq told me they will have to pick it up!
Point of the story I'm glad your question was answered and hope you have a better day or luck than I'm having. Scott
