If you really only wanted 100hp, then an intercooler is not necessarily required, but the value added for the IC far exceeds the risk of no intercooler, so I would plan to IC it.

A W305 would work really well, but it's far more expensive, and will just be loafing around, yet you'll have the ability to make basically whatever power level you want, it all depends on the lower end. There is zero distribution problems with the large W305. It has a built in deflector plate and a 2" plenuem chamber above IC.

Thanks,

I sent you email before reading this thread . And those intercoolers never left the back of my mind for my 305's
project , anyway which intercooler could be able to get 100 MPH with twin 555 CI motors in my 89 38' fever ? my lower end can handle it now , it will all be left up to XR's to drive them . unless XPOWER Drives become an option then the intercoolers would be required!

hello dustin,
I have a similar set up, a pair of 540 ci dart motors 9.0-1 compression dart iron eagle 308 heads. they dynoed at 580hp
I would like to get 800-850hp. will the whipple 3300 carbed do this for me or do i need to lower the compression?
thanks
steve

Howard,

Not sure on speed pickup, what did you do before? Intercoolers are pretty cheap insurance, and give you the ability to "go after" more power very easily. You would only need our IC-2 which is 8" wide, 2.5" thick, 12" long. This is more than enough for you.

For Klaw, same thing, this is the middle IC, and will give you all you need, but we do have a IC-1 which is 4" wide, 2.5" thick and 10" long, it's a bit undersized, but would be a cheap option. This requires our smaller manifold, but it's good for up to 850hp. This won't fit with the 305, because it's a smaller manifold.

Thanks,
Dustin

You can do the same, run the 3.3 with 5-6psi, 28-30deg timing, 11.5:1 air fuel ratio. With IC, you can easily make 800-850hp safely. You'll need 1050 carb.

Thanks,
Dustin

Same sc, smaller IC and manifold. More than enough for your motor. 850 Holley will work really well. We typically use the Mallory 140M electric pump. 6psi, 91 octane, you'll be right at 600-625hp. Install some exhaust, you can add another 25hp.

Sorry, was thinking of 385hp with hydr roller, you'll be closer to 550-575hp.

Thanks,
Dustin

I have the option of using any blower out there. I am a dealer for just about all of them. I have used all of them from a PSI to a roots to a Procharger. If I am building a new supercharged engine, it is getting a Whipple. The only time I use anything else is if it is an existing setup. I'm doing a Procharged engine right now, but only because the customer had the Procharger already. I don't have anything against the other blowers, most of them are great pieces. I just think the Whipple is the best all around blower. Like I said, I have my choice to use any of them, and I choose to run the Whipples.
