Default Rigging Question, any ideas on running wiring .

I know it is not really typical question for this forum, but thought I would give it a shot. Anyhow, I recently purchased a little 17' CC to fish with and I am adding a depth sounder. The rigging tube does not have a rope, or any wiring thru it, just throttle cable, shifter and steering. The PVC tube in the rear of the boat and in the console just dumps into the hull. Any great ideas how I can run the wiring to the center console? I tried for a while with fish tapes etc. with no luck. I suppose I could remove a throttle or shift cable and use that but thought I would ask for suggestions. Thanks.

Try using a strong shop vac on one end, use a little duct tape for a better seal if need be, and feed some dental floss through the other end. Once you have sucked the dental floss through you can use it to pull through some twine or whatever you want to pull your cable with.

Good Luck

Electricians use something called a glo-rod, very thin fiberglass rod that is strong and flexible, available at grainger's and others

Also you could disconnect one of the existing cables and use that to pull a line through, be sure to leave it there when you are done for next time.

I was just about ready to pull the throttle cable off and use that when I had an idea. I had a pretty stiff steel fish tape I threaded into blige and used a large very strong Neo magnet I had laying around. I tied a piece of 50lb test fishign line to the magnet and threw it repeatedly thru a access hole I drilled under the center console. (I am going to put a 6" deck plate there today). I got super lucky and stuck it to the steel fish. My next door neighbor heard my throwing the magnet up inside the hull and walked over. I had to endure several "fishing" jokes , but was all worth it when I felt it drag the fish tape to my new access port.

go to a local marina and ask for an old throttle / shift cable. this works very well as a snake or feed wire.
once pushed thru just tape your wiring to the cable with electrical which for this application is both stronger and less succeptible to drag than say masking or duct tape. and pull awawy.

good luck.

use an electrician's wire snake...works very well because it is strong yet flexible...I have used this numerous times on small center consoles and larger fishing vessels.....good luck

I use a 25' carpet fish and never have any problems. Used the chit out of it today running all new wiring for the stereo upgrade.
